It is that time of the year. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming we are in Daylight Savings Time. That can only mean one thing, no it is not Spring, it is time for March Madness, the craziness that precedes and embraces the crowning of the best basketball team in the country, the NCAA Basketball Champion. They will have bragging rights for an entire year.
I think what makes this time of the year so exciting is that the winner is picked not by a computer or a fan vote but by head-to-head competition on the court. One by one teams have to play each other and win to move on. No second chances, no twist, win or go home.
On this field of battle any team can win. All previous records are thrown out and it comes down to one game, two teams and a great deal of heart and desire. And every year there is one team that seems to play above and beyond their capabilities and they shock everyone, the experts, the analyst and the betting public. These teams are the Cinderellas of the tournament. Everyone loves the underdog and every year at least one team steps up to grab the title of this years Cinderella.
This is what makes Bracketology not an exact science but an art. There are thousands of combinations that lead to the NCAA Basketball Champion and it is this that makes March Madness a special time of the year.
